"The All-America City Award is America's oldest and most prestigious community recognition
award. Since 1949 the All-America City Award has encouraged and recognized civic excellence, honoring
communities of all sizes (cities, towns, counties, neighborhoods and regions) in
which citizens, government, businesses and voluntary organizations work together to address critical
local issues." —All-America City Awards, National Civic League
Watch for details coming soon on our Team's inspiring presentation at the finals in Tampa. Congratulations to
them (and to YOU, Statesville) for a job well done. Tell us your story; that is what the application
for an All-America City Award asks applicants to do. With that simple directive comes a challenge to look at your community, evaluate yourselves and commit
to new partnerships for the future. All-America Cities are not perfect, but they have a vision that looks beyond their problems
and a willingness to get involved with innovative and collaborative solutions. Those who achieve this award are an inspiration
to other communities struggling to overcome their own challenges. We
believe Statesville is an All-America City. Our community's ongoing efforts to craft
a shared Vision have highlighted where we need to focus our energies in the future. But it has also made us keenly aware of
those programs that are meeting tough challenges today. They are proof of Statesville's achievements and testament to
our willingness to "view challenges as problems to be solved instead of battles to be fought." Our Vision is clear—"to
become one community out of many cultures and a community providing opportunity and hope for all." Only three of those
programs could be included in the nomination, but they represent many more that are the keys to our success today and our
hope for the future. Out of hundreds of applicants, Statesville has been selected as a finalist for the 2009 Awards. Delegations from all 32 finalist communities will travel to Tampa, Florida in June to make their presentation before a prestigious panel. The coveted prize is one of
only ten All-America City Awards given annually by the National Civic League. With this designation comes renewed civic pride plus heightened local, state and national attention that is a proven boost
for recruitment of industry, jobs and investment to communities. Statesville last received this honor in 1997; it is time
we brought it home again. Statesville 2009 All-America City Finalist 115 East Front Street Statesville, NC 28677 704-873-2892 704-871-1552
